Advancing the Drill: Butterfly Chest Protector Save

By Maurice Tanel

In this drill video, we are advancing the PERFORMANCE profile student through a series of progressions to develop the butterfly chest protector save

The succession of these drills, challenges the technical execution along with developing the read skills necessary to adjust tempo from transitional explosiveness to a controlled save.

  • Each drill succession allows the student to focus on:

  • Blocker hand behind the back to force the goalie to only use the glove

Reintroduce the Blocker and Stick to have them work with the glove

Incorporate transitional movement before the save, to challenge the ability to change tempo from transitional explosiveness to controlled save execution

Encouraging reaction to position on rebounds

    Encourage freezing lose puck rebounds

When working with young goalies we must ensure the Scaling and Advancing of drills that will allow the student to gradually, safely and with confidence, maximize that value of the drill to better improve skills.

Profile Based Training Process promotes the skill progression that encourages the student to slowly execute the skill with the objective on learning the skill details and the proper execution.

Don’t focus on what performance results will get you notice but rather the personal growth process that will help you improve and reach your goals.
