Advancing the Drill: Standing Glove Saves

By Maurice Tanel

IN THIS DRILL VIDEO, WE ARE ADVANCING Noah (PERFORMANCE LEVEL STUDENT) THROUGH A SERIES OF PROGRESSIONS TO DEVELOP THE skills that are required to TECHNICALLY and tactically Execute Standing Glove SAVEs

The succession of these drills, challenges the technical and tactical execution along with developing the read skills necessary to adjust tempo from transitional explosiveness to a controlled save.

The Advance Level student demonstrates the competent physical qualities required to execute drills with the effective mechanics. During this development stage, advancing the drill by ‘layering’ skills will progress the student from sound technical execution towards improving the reaction link between processing of information and tactical execution

  • Each drill succession allows the student to focus on:

✅ Refine the technical execution

✅ Focus on quickly reading the puck’s high elevation during dynamic movement in order to identify standing saves

✅ Working on reads and challenging when to tactically execute standing stance versus butterfly stance

An effective training session requires instruction that is overseen by a capable coach who can communicate and paint a mental image of the skill elements. This will allow the student to understand the key elements and consciously apply them during ‘Deliberate Training’

Profile Based Training Process promotes development through the skill progression that encourages students with the objective of learning the skill details, understanding their purpose and applying proper execution.

‘Don’t focus on the performance results that will get you noticed but rather the actions of discipline that will help you reach your goals on the road towards personal growth’
