LOOK BEYOND THE RESULT

Wins, losses, mistakes, and successful execution all provide information that can guide your development.

Every performance tells you something.

A win can show you what is working. A loss can expose areas that need attention. A successful training rep can reinforce a movement or skill, while a mistake can reveal where understanding or execution needs to improve.

The key is learning how to use that information.

Look Beyond Winning and Losing

Wins feel good. Losses don’t.

But neither tells the complete story of how a goalie performed.

You can win without playing your best. You can lose while demonstrating significant improvement in positioning, movement, tracking, patience, or decision-making.

Instead of allowing the result to define the performance, ask:

What did my performance show me?

Recognize what worked. Identify what didn’t. Use both to determine what needs to happen next.

Training Tells You Something Too

Performance isn’t limited to games.

Every training rep provides feedback.

When a skill is executed correctly, recognize why it worked. When execution breaks down, don’t simply move on to the next rep.

Ask what happened.

Was the movement sequenced correctly? Was your body properly aligned? Did you maintain visual contact with the puck? Did you understand the objective of the drill?

Mistakes aren’t just mistakes—they’re information.

That information creates awareness, and awareness gives you the opportunity to make an adjustment.

Turn Performance Into Development

The real value of performance comes from what you do with the information it provides.

PERFORM → RECOGNIZE → REFLECT → ADJUST → TRAIN → IMPROVE

Be proud when you recognize progress.

Be honest when something needs work.

Then take what you’ve learned back into your preparation and training with a clearer objective.

That is how performance becomes part of the development process—not simply a measurement of the result.

Keep Learning From Your Performance

Don’t allow one win to convince you everything is working or one loss to convince you nothing is.

Look deeper.

What worked?
What needs work?
What did I learn?
What will I do differently next time?

PREPARE WITH PURPOSE. TRAIN WITH INTENTION.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s developing the awareness to understand your performance and use it to keep moving forward.

“BE PROUD OF YOUR PROGRESS.
BE HONEST ABOUT WHAT NEEDS WORK.
KEEP DEVELOPING.”
