SERIOUS ABOUT IMPROVING? THEN YOU NEED THIS CHART!

By Maurice Tanel

Because Motivation Won’t Always Show Up — But Your Schedule Can.

Let’s be real — waiting to “feel like it” is exactly how most people fall short of their goals.

Motivation is unreliable. It comes and goes. If you only train when you’re feeling motivated, your progress will be inconsistent — and you’ll miss out on countless opportunities to improve.

So what actually works?

Scheduled Training System that steers your discipline.

A system isn’t just about structure — it’s a guide that keeps you aligned with your goals, even on the days when motivation is low. It takes the thinking out of it and makes taking action your default. It’s how you build habits. It’s how you make progress without relying on willpower alone.

What We Recommend for Goalies Who Want Consistency

If you’re looking to bring more commitment and consistency to your development, you need a system — one that fits your life and gives you the structure to improve week after week.

We call it the Training Pie Chart System.

This system helps goalies organize their weekly availability and schedule the right types of training and preparation — even with school, family, friends, and team commitments in the mix.

Team Commitments

These are non-negotiables — make them count.
Team Practices
Arrive prepared to practice with awareness. Know what you’re working on and how to self-correct.
Team Games
Compete with the confidence that comes from preparation — and be ready to assess both your strengths and areas for improvement.

Training, Preparation & Assessment

These are the reps that separate goalies who show up from goalies who level up.

  • 1 GTB Technical Instruction Video/Week (At Home or Before Ice Prep)
Use your Goalie Toolbox to learn the key components of a specific skill area.
  • 1 GTB Isolation Drill Exercise/Week (At Home or Before Ice Prep)
Use your GTB to practice, record, and assess the skill keys in a focused, controlled environment.
  • 1 GTB Functional Movement & Mental Practice Session/Week (At Home or Before Ice Prep)
Use your GTB to visualize skill chunks and reinforce the movement patterns that lead to better execution.
  • Weekly Goalie-Specific Clinic(s)
Attend targeted training session designed to build your individual game.
  • Weekly Game Performance Self-Assessment Session(s)
Reflect on your most recent game — even better if you have video. Identify what went well, where you can improve, and set clear goals for your next training session. Use what you’ve learned through GTB, clinics, and team practice to guide your development.

Coaching Tips for Sticking to It:

✔ Block your training like appointments — on your calendar.
✔ Pre-plan your week — decide when your GTB work fits best (before a practice, on an off day, or as a pre-game routine).
✔ Don’t aim for perfection. Aim for consistency.

Motivation is a feeling.
Scheduled Training System is a commitment — and it works, even when motivation doesn’t show up.
